A Simple Guide to the Triund Trek
A beginner-friendly mountain meadow at the foot of the Dhauladhar range

Triund is a beautiful mountain meadow sitting right at the foot of the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh. At about 9,350 feet high, it is the perfect spot for beginners who want a taste of the mountains without a crazy difficult climb.

Getting There
If you are starting from Chandigarh, grab a bus straight to Dharamshala. From the bus stand, catch a local taxi or a local ride up to McLeod Ganj. This is where your actual trekking path begins.

Quick Trek Facts
March to June for pleasant weather, or September to November for clear, crisp air.
What to Expect on the Trail
The path takes you through lovely forests filled with oak and pine trees. The hardest part is right at the end: the famous 22 curves. This is a steep zigzag stretch, but pushing through it is completely worth it. Once you reach the top ridge, you get massive snow-capped mountains on one side and the green Kangra Valley on the other.

Essential Tips for the Trip
Having a local expert makes the trip safer and much more enjoyable.
Skip the shorts. Wear proper trek pants and a full-sleeve t-shirt to protect yourself from the sun and bugs.
Always carry a walking stick, a torch, and a raincoat. The weather in the mountains changes fast, and sudden rain is very common.
Try to push up to the highest base and camp there for the night. The sunset and sunrise from the ridge are views you will never forget.
If Triund feels crowded and you want a quieter Himachal trekking base instead, our Jibhi trekking guide covers the Serolsar Lake and Raghupur Fort trails.
